MEET ROB MITCHELL
After graduating from Franklin High School and working his way through college to obtain his business degree from MTSU, Rob progressed quickly through management positions in companies that included Service Merchandise, Zale’s Jewelry Stores and Dillard’s.
Tiring of the world of big business, Rob decided to pursue small business ownership as an independent insurance agent. The the trust of the his clients resulted in his success for more than 15 years with Rob earning the prestigious ‘2010 Best Insurance Agent in the Nashville Area’ by the Nashville Scene.
Rob has been happily married to wife Kim Mitchell who works for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Murfreesboro as a Registered Nurse.
Rob and Kim have three grown children.
Rob’s other endeavors include being a Master Mason and a member of Mt. Moriah Lodge #18 F & AM of Murfreesboro. Rob has remained loyal to Pi Sigma Epsilon as its first alumni adviser and a life member of the national co-ed collegiate and professional marketing, management fraternal organization. Rob was instrumental in growing its membership from 13 to 170 members within two years and being recognized in the top three chapters nationally.
Later in his tenure at Zale’s Jewlers, Rob was recognized as a problem solver where he was assigned difficult stores and charged with turning them around. Rob’s store eventually became the largest volume store in Tennessee.
Rob was the president of the Brentwood Jaycees (Jr. Chamber of Commerce) overseeing and coordinating the statewide Youth Leadership Conference offering extensive leadership training with legislators and business leaders.
Rob Mitchell has a proven track record of success as Rutherford County Assessor of Property. Under his leadership, the office has been recognized for its innovative use of technology, its commitment to efficiency, and its dedication to public service.
Here are just a few of Mitchell’s accomplishments:
-Implemented Smart Rutherford, a technology-driven platform that allows citizens to receive assessment notices via email, saving taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars per year.
-Returned over four million dollars back to Rutherford County citizens by using innovative office efficiencies.
-Was the first and only elected official to utilize a state grant to replace old vehicles with fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles.
-Achieved the Excellence in Operation award from the Tennessee Association of Assessing Officers, which was the first and only time the office won the award. He has also won four consecutive Three Star Awards from the same organization.
-Through technology use, Mitchell was able to operate his office with thirty percent less staff during a period of tremendous growth.
-Created a public information template which he shares with other Assessors to assist in helping them to inform their citizens.
-Won the John C. Donehoo Award from the International Association of Assessing Officers and is a regular contributor of articles and ideas to share with Assessors nationally. He is one of only five Tennesseans to ever win this award and the only one who was not a statewide director of the Division of Property Assessments.
